  • About the Fat Tires: The Lake Travis Fat Tires Mountain Bike Club was organized in 2003 to provide an avenue/arena for ALL Lake Travis area bike enthusiasts to meet and exercise in a fun and informal manner. The club currently does not have dues but does require a membership form be completed for communication purposes. We are Lakeway based and ride somewhat regularly in the Hamilton Greenbelt and on the Lakeway Blvd. Trail, both easy to moderate rides.

  • Our Philosophy: To provide a home base for responsible mountain biking in the Lake Travis area. A resource for single track trail identification, construction and maintenance and repair. A source for regular rides, events and socials. A PAC for fat tire access, rights and responsibilities in our area.

  • Eligible Participants: Any adult with a bike.

  • Interactice: Lake Travis Fat tires is a member in good standing on www.bikejournal.com. We encourage all members to register on bikejournal.com and add your affiliation with our club. Bikejournal.com allows each member the ability to maintain a riding log, communicate with your club members, find and sign up for rides and events. It's an excellent way to manage your riding experience.

  • Next Event: A meet and greet and ride beginning in the Old City Hall parking lot. This is not a competitive cycling club. This club is for those who love to ride, and those who would like to love to ride or those that would just like to change their sedentary ways. We’re dedicated to using Fat Tires to prevent, or in my case reduce, Spare Tires.

    • Event: Lake Travis Fat Tires’ 13.91 mile Lakeway Loop (about 3/5 paved 2/5 trail)
    • Google Route GMap & Elevation: go here   I came pretty close mileage-wise.
    • When: Every Saturday April and May 2007
    • Where: Lakeway Police Department Parking Lot
    • Time: 11:00 AM
    What’ll we do:
The map above is pretty accurate and provides elevation mile marker and calories burned options. Google Maps are pretty amazing with what you can do with them. This map show the start/finish at mile house on Hurst Creek Rd., bu the route remails the same.

Here is a verbal discriptive of the route: We'll start on the Smith Greenbelt trail at the Lohman's Crossing entrance finish on Lakeway Drive, head up the short steep incline (there is a less steep variation) to Lakeway Blvd. There we'll catch the Lakeway Blvd. Trail and ride all the way to it's end.

Then we'll backtrack to Blue Jay and make our way by the airpark via Flying Scott, Lido and Vanguard back to Lakeway Drive. Take the golf cart path up the hill to Lakeway Drive heading toward the Inn. Right on Sunfish to Hurst Pl. then on Hurst Creek Rd. headed toward City park.

Turn into City Park and stay right and enter the high trail. Stay right and follow the double track around to the paved City Park Path. Climb up and around to just below the playscape. There is a 90 degree right hander and a small steep rocky climb to the back of the top parking lot (only technical part of the route and not too technical). Stay right behind the baseball field and come out from the baseball field parking lot. Get back on Hurst Creek and follow it to its end, Turn around and climb back out. Follow Hurst Creek to Lohman's back to the Old City Hall Parking lot.

This loop has 8 climbs of varying degree. The two worst (grade wise) are the Short steep incline on Lakeway Dr. to Lakeway Blvd., and the offroad short steep climb back to the upper parking lot in the City Park. The longest climb is the Lakeway Blvd. trail climb, it is 1.1 miles. Coming back its about .8 miles.

The rote is not at all hard. For the true Mountain Biker, it might even be a disappointment. There is very little weavy single track and alot of pavement. It does, however allow you to push yourself as much as you'd like aerobically, as there is plenty of climbing. RSVP HERE
